Description

A natural calcite cluster in the form collectors call nailhead spar, hundreds of blunt rounded terminations crowding together across the whole front face like a bed of river stones seen from above. The color runs cream and pale peach in the shallows and deepens to warm apricot and red where the iron rich zoning pooled. It sits upright on its own without a stand.

Turn it over and the story changes completely. The back is open, and it shows the interior: bladed calcite crystals standing in ranks and fanning upward in a chevron, pale at the base and flushing orange red toward the tips, with a band of chalky white material along the bottom edge. You are looking at the inside of the same growth you see on the front, which is not something most specimens will show you.

The product photographs show the exact piece you will receive.

Specifications

Stone: calcite, peach to red zoned nailhead form (identified by direct comparison against a verified calcite reference specimen)

Size: about 3.5 inches tall and about 3 inches wide

Weight: 1 lb 6 oz (1.390 lb)

Form: natural and unpolished. The front face is untouched growth. The back is open to the interior.

Please note: this is a natural mineral, so expect uneven edges and variation in color across the surface. There is some breakage on the front face, visible in the photos, and the price reflects it. You are receiving the exact piece shown. Calcite is a soft mineral, so handle it gently and keep it away from acids and long soaks in water.

Calcite is one of the great amplifiers of the mineral world. Where other stones are said to hold one energy, calcite is spoken of as the stone that turns everything up, clearing stagnant air and getting things moving again. Warm zoned calcite like this carries that reputation with a fiery accent: the reds and apricots are associated with the root and sacral centers, with motivation, creativity, appetite, and the willingness to begin. Less a demand and more an invitation, but an insistent one.

The nailhead form adds its own quiet layer. Each rounded terminus is a crystal that grew slowly, layer over layer, mineral rich water arriving again and again until what started as a smear became a landscape. People who keep clustered calcite tend to talk about it in terms of accumulation, the idea that the small repeated thing is what actually builds something, and that you rarely notice it while it is happening.

Clustered forms are also read as community, the many small growths that make one body. A piece like this is often placed somewhere shared rather than private, a kitchen windowsill or a table where people gather, on the theory that it belongs where the gathering happens.

Because natural minerals are delicate and can be damaged by the stress of shipping, we are unable to accept returns. If your item arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours with photos and we will make it right.
