This amethyst is the color of early spring wisteria. Not the deep saturated purple you see everywhere, and not the pale frost of an icy variety. This sits right in the sweet spot: a soft, luminous lavender with just enough depth to feel rich and just enough transparency to catch the light and scatter it across every crystal face.
The entire front surface is covered in well-formed crystal points that range from translucent lavender to deeper violet in the recesses. The coverage is dense and uniform, with no bare patches. Individual terminations are clearly visible across the surface, giving it a texture that rewards close inspection. In natural light, the whole piece seems to glow from within.
Look at the side and you'll see the geological story laid out in layers: dark basalt host rock, a band of white agate, a thin ribbon of warm brown chalcedony, and then the amethyst crystals on top. It's a cross-section of how this geode formed millions of years ago, layer by layer, from the outside in.
This is a self-standing piece with a flat cut base, so it sits securely on any surface without a stand. At over two pounds and 4.5 inches in each direction, it has a solid, grounding presence without taking over a shelf. The triangular shape gives it a natural sense of balance.
Amethyst forms when silicon dioxide (quartz) crystallizes in volcanic rock cavities, with trace iron and natural radiation producing the purple color. Most of the world's gem-quality amethyst comes from Brazil and Uruguay, where massive geodes grow deep in ancient basalt flows.
