Description

A polished agate geode cut open down one side, so the whole sparkling cave is on show while the stone still stands on its own flat base.

The outside is glassy and deep, banded in dark teal green that softens to gray where the light catches it. Inside, the cave is lined edge to edge with fine druzy quartz in warm gray and brown, and it sparkles from across a room. Low in the cave sits a cream white crystal mound, rounded and sugary, with a band of green running underneath it.

It needs no stand. The base is cut flat and it stands on its own, which means you can put it anywhere you want a little weight and a little sparkle, a shelf, a desk, a windowsill, the middle of a console where people will pick it up. The agate is from Uruguay.

Set it where light can reach into the cave. Morning light across a shelf is the easiest way to see the druzy do its thing, and the darker the surface underneath it, the more the green in the banding comes forward.

About 5.25 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 3 inches deep. It weighs 1 pound 15.8 ounces, so it has real presence in the hand.

Agate is the steadying one.
