She is the one who catches the light and pretends she did not mean to. A wide raw cluster of golden mica, hundreds of thin muscovite blades stacked and fanned at every angle, pale gold and honey with a soft pearly sheen, and between them patches of white feldspar that make the gold read warmer. Tilt her toward a window and the blades flash one at a time, like a whole cluster winking at you. She comes with the clear acrylic stand in the photos, which holds her upright so the full face shows.
She wants a desk, a bookshelf or a bright side table, anywhere the light moves across her, because the flashes are the show and they need light to happen. At about 7 inches wide she is a real presence without being heavy, and the clear stand means she looks like she is floating on a white surface. Lift her off the stand and she rests on her back edge just as happily.
Mica is read in crystal tradition as a stone of reflection and clarity, the layered mineral that is thought to help a person see a situation from more than one angle and let go of what does not serve them.
