Imagine a handful of pale green fluorite cubes, stacked and tumbled together the way they grew, and then a snowfall. That is this piece. Every cube from Fujian Province in China is frosted over with a skin of tiny quartz crystals, so the whole surface glitters like fresh snow in sun, and the green of the fluorite glows softly through it from underneath. Tilt it and the sparkle rolls across the cubes. Hold it still and it looks like a little winter landscape, cubes for cottages, drifts of white between them.
Turn it over and the story continues. The back is a slab of gray quartz and chalcedony with more cubes and more frost creeping over the edges, and there are a few peeks of deeper green where the fluorite is bare. It is a real collector's specimen, complete on every side, close to five inches across and light in the hand at eleven ounces, and it comes on a metal pin stand with a clear acrylic base that holds it at the angle that catches the light.
Fluorite is read as the stone of clear thinking, the one for focus, order and cutting through mental fog, and green fluorite in particular for a fresh start and a clean slate. Quartz is read as the amplifier, and here it is wrapped around every cube, so the whole piece reads as clarity turned up. There is also something simply joyful about it. It is the kind of stone that people pick up and turn in the light without meaning to, and then do not want to put down.
