Some spheres are pretty from every angle. This one has a secret. Turn it and the polished surface opens into a cave, a real geode pocket lined with pale lilac druzy crystals that catch the light in tiny points, like frost on a window. The rest of the sphere is soft blush and cream, scattered with the little starburst plumes that give flower agate its name. Each one looks like a blossom caught mid opening.
The plumes are not painted on and not dyed. They are chalcedony that grew outward from a single point over a very long time, which is why no two flower agate spheres are alike and why the pattern keeps going all the way through the stone. Against all that softness, the open pocket is a surprise: raw, crystalline, a little wild.
