A whole butterfly, both wings cut from chevron amethyst and set into a silver finish metal body with curled antennae.
Chevron amethyst is the striped one. Deep purple runs through milky white quartz in bands, and here the banding chevrons out from the body and mirrors itself across the middle, so the two wings read as a matched pair. The carved edge follows each wing in scallops and points all the way down to the long lower tails, and the surface is polished smooth.

Put it where light comes from behind it or across it. Backlight finds the white bands, the purple deepens around them, and the chevron striping reads all the way out to the wing tips. Flat front light turns the whole thing into one solid purple shape, which is the one way to waste it. A windowsill, a desk, the front edge of a bookshelf, anywhere the light moves during the day.
Amethyst is the stone most people meet first and it earns its keep. It has been carried for a clear head and an even temper for as long as anyone has written these things down, and the chevron kind, with the white quartz cutting through it, gets read as the working version of that, amethyst with something structural running through it. Butterflies bring their own meaning along, the obvious one, the thing that changed shape and came out able to fly. A piece like this tends to be given rather than bought, and usually to somebody who is partway through the change rather than out the other side.
