A banded agate from Brazil, cut clean down the middle and polished on one face, so the whole story of the stone is right there on the front. The bands run caramel and honey at the rim, then tan, then white and soft gray as they close in on a milky center with a feathered, frost like pattern down its spine. Turn it and the rest of the stone is left exactly as it grew, a sugary druzy rind along the edge and a rough, warm brown back with a small dark pocket of crystal in it.
The base is cut flat so it stands on its own, no stand needed. Set it on a shelf, a windowsill or a desk and the polished face catches whatever light is in the room. It sits solidly in the hand, a little over a pound, and the contrast between the glassy front and the raw back is the best part of it.
Agate is the slow and steady stone, the one that was built up one thin band at a time over ages, and that is how people tend to read it. It is a grounding stone, a stabilizer, the one you reach for when everything feels like it is moving too fast and you want a little of that layered patience in the room. Banded agate in particular is read as a stone of balance, the alternating bands standing in for the back and forth of ordinary life, and the pale center as the quiet at the middle of it.
