A big polished apatite sphere in deep sea blue, close to four inches across and well over three pounds in the hand. The color moves as you turn it, from a dark denim through teal to a soft green blue where the light catches, and there are quiet gray and rust markings drifting through it like weather across water. One or two pale patches read almost like sea foam. It sits on the carved wooden stand shown, which comes with it.
The name is one of the good ones in mineralogy. Apatite comes from a Greek word meaning to deceive, because for centuries it kept getting mistaken for other stones, and miners named it after the trick it played on them. It is a calcium phosphate, the same family of mineral your own bones and teeth are built from, which is a strange and rather lovely thing to hold in your hands.
Apatite is a softer stone than quartz, so it wants a shelf rather than a pocket, and it should be kept out of long direct sun and away from anything harsh. Handled kindly it will outlast all of us.
Crystal lore holds blue apatite as the clearing stone, the one for a mind with too many tabs open. It is said to cut through the noise and leave the one true thing standing, which is why people reach for it when a decision has been going in circles.
