A polished tower that reads like a cross section of how the earth actually builds a stone. Soft violet amethyst crowns the point. Below it runs a crisp band of lace in white, dove gray and red brown. Then the body opens into a wide field of translucent lavender quartz, clouded and glowing, with fine rust colored threads of iron drifting through it. At the base the banding returns and folds into deep chevrons of caramel, cream and cocoa.
Turn it and the story changes. One face is nearly all quartz, pale and luminous, the kind of surface that drinks light and holds it. Another carries a warm cream panel set into the point like an inlay. The back is banded from top to bottom. It is one stone doing four different things depending on where you stand.
Crazy lace agate is named for exactly what you see at the base here, banding that refuses to run straight and instead loops, folds and doubles back on itself. Finding it capped with amethyst in a single piece is the uncommon part, and it is why this material gets cut into towers rather than tumbled.

The fine lines visible in the pale panel near the point are healed seams inside the agate, sealed smooth beneath the polish, and they are part of how this banded material forms rather than damage. There are also a few tiny dings and nicks on the surface that you can catch with a fingernail, the ordinary marks a polished stone picks up on its way to you. Expect small variations in clarity and pattern from face to face. You are receiving the exact piece shown.
